Silver Scholars
The Silver Scholars Program is designed to honor those students who have excelled academically. The University of Nevada, Reno is excited to honor the top percentage of eighth graders at selected Middle and Junior High Schools throughout Nevada. This program is intended to reward academic excellence and encourage Nevada’s youth to prepare for higher education.
In partnership with Nevada Middle Schools, the goal is to empower students to successfully plan for their future. The program also addresses:
- Appropriate classes to take in high school
- General information for university admissions requirements
- Information for parents regarding early planning to best prepare their child
- How to pay for college (financial aid and scholarship opportunities)
- Volunteering and joining clubs and organizations
- Test preparation
The students and their families are invited to the Silver Scholars ceremony, where they are recognized for their academic achievement and presented with a Silver Scholars certificate and scholastic pin. After the ceremony students and parents can mingle with university representatives and current students to discuss options regarding preparation for higher education.
