Transfer Students

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Transfer students follow the same application procedure as all other students. To be accepted as a transfer student, you need:

  1. Transferable credits & grade point average:
A minimum of 24 transferable semester college credits with at least a minimum 2.5 GPA in all coursework.

While there's no limit to the number of credits which may transfer, at least half of the total number of credits required for the bachelor's degree must be earned at an accredited four-year institution. Thirty-two upper division credits must be earned in residence at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Students who graduate from an NSHE institution with an Associates of arts, Associates of business, or Associates of science will be guaranteed admissions and meet the university's core requirements.

  2. Transcripts:
Arrange to have official copies of transcripts from each college or university you have attended sent to Admissions & Records. If you have less than 24 transfer credits, you must also submit a high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores.

  3. Immunizations:
If you were born in 1957 or later, you must present documentation of immunization for the following before you can be admitted to the university:
    • Two doses for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) and
    • An immunization within the last 10 years for diphtheria/tetanus.
If you were born before 1957, you are exempt from the MMR requirement. However, you are required to have a diphtheria/tetanus immunization within the last 10 years. These immunizations may be obtained from the Washoe County Health Department (328-2400), located at 1001 E. 9th St. International students have additional requirements and must contact the Student Health Center (775) 784-6598 before registration.

If you do not meet the requirements, you can apply for admission under special consideration. If you show evidence of potential for success through a combination of test scores and GPA, or special talents, such as visual or performing arts or athletics, or improvement in academic record, then you may be granted admission through special consideration.
