What time does Orientation start?

On Thursday, August 21st check-in begins at 8:00 am at Lawlor Events Center. Opening Ceremonies begins promptly at 8:30am so please arrive in enough time to check in. On Friday, August 22nd there is a mix and mingle with academic faculty from 7:30-8:00 am. Academic sessions begin promptly at 8:00 am. Find your Academic session location.

Where does Orientation take place?

Check-in for New Student Orientation on Thursday, August 21st is located at the South ticket entrance of Lawlor Events Center for students and the top floor of Lawlor Events Center for parents. Lawlor Events Center is located on the corner of North Virginia and 15th street. After the ceremony, students will be led in groups to different buildings around campus. On Friday, August 22nd New Student Orientation begins with the academic sessions, which are held throughout campus. Find your Academic session location. After the academic sessions, students will be led in groups to different areas of campus. Parking is available both days on the fourth and fifth floor of the Brian Whalen Parking Complex across from Lawlor Events Center or any level of the New Parking Garage on the North end of campus. What should I wear?

There is no specific dress code for New Student Orientation, but students are recommended to dress comfortably. Students will be both inside and outside throughout the day. While buildings are air-conditioned, Reno at the end of August will still be fairly hot so be prepared. Students are advised to check the weather forecast before arriving and dress appropriately. Remember to also wear comfortable shoes.

What will I be doing at New Student Orientation?

New Student Orientation is designed to give incoming freshmen the opportunity to explore campus, learn about programs, services and how to get involved as well as meet new people. Members of the Student Orientation Staff will lead students through different activities and events. Students will also have the opportunity to get acclimated to academic departments and find out what programs and services the Nevada campus and community offers to ensure success.

The evening and weekend off-hour programming during New Student Orientation is full of fun activities for students and families including a comedian, the Friday Festival and the Block Party.

Are my parents or family members allowed to come?

Yes! Parents and family members are welcome to attend the Parent and Family Orientation happening on August 21st and 22nd also. They will need to RSVP by August 11th by completing the online form or calling toll free at 888.NV.PARNT.

Is childcare provided during New Student Orientation?

No, childcare is not provided at any point during New Student Orientation. Please make other arrangements before arriving to campus.

Will I be able to purchase my books and classroom supplies during New Student Orientation?

Between the day activities and evening social events, students will be given ample free time to purchase textbooks and other supplies. Students can purchase books, supplies and Nevada apparel at the ASUN bookstore located in the Joe Crowley Student Union. Visit their on-line store and avoid lines.

Free trips to Wal-Mart will also be sponsored by the ASUN Programming Board during the weekend of New Student Orientation.

Do I need my new student ID card before New Student Orientation?

It is not required to obtain your student ID- called the Wolfcard, but it is highly recommend to avoid long lines. A student ID is also required to enter the Block Party on Saturday night of Orientation. For more information about the Wolfcard.

How much does New Student Orientation cost?

All incoming students are required to pay the one-time $106.00 New Student Orientation fee included on the student's first bill. There will be no additional cost for any activities and events throughout the four days of New Student Orientation.

Do I need to RSVP for New Student Orientation?

Students are not required to RSVP for New Student Orientation as it is mandatory or all incoming students. Parents do need to RSVP by August 11th by completing the online form or calling toll free at 888.NV.PARNT.

If I am an employee of the University, am I required to attend New Student Orientation and pay the $106.00 fee?

Yes, all new students are required to pay the one-time $99.00 New Student Orientation fee and attend New Student Orientation regardless of their campus affiliation.

Can I bring my friend to New Student Orientation?

It is not recommended for friends to attend New Student Orientation as they will only be allowed to attend the Parent and Family Orientation, held separately from New Student Orientation.

Will food be provided at New Student Orientation?

Lunch will be provided both Thursday and Friday of Orientation for both students and family members. Snacks and water will be made available throughout the day, but eating breakfast before arriving is recommended.

Am I required to attend all our days of New Student Orientation?

All incoming students are required to attend the day activities of New Student Orientation on Thursday, August 21st and Friday, August 22nd. The events and activities occurring during the evening and weekend are not mandatory, but students are strongly encouraged to attend.
